Message from the Ai-Kon board of directors.
Thank you for being patient with us while we have monitored the constantly evolving situation for Covid-19.
Today we regretfully announce that we must postpone our 19th year of celebrating Japanese culture with you. This will result in our event, which was scheduled for July 24th to July 26th 2020, will not be occurring this year. We will be aiming to return in 2021 for Winterfest and Ai-kon proper July 23rd to July 25th. We appreciate your understanding in this decision. We know this news will be as disappointing to you as it is equally to us. All our committee members are volunteers and put a great many hours into planning year long to bring you an amazing event. It saddens us to not be able to show you the fruits of our labour.
This decision was not made lightly. After great consideration we felt it necessary to first and foremost protect the health and safety of our attendees, staff, volunteers, partners, artists and vendors that attend Ai-Kon.
What does this mean for attendees who have already purchased tickets?
Tickets purchased online
- Paid by credit card – If you purchased your digital ticket through Tix123 and paid with visa or mastercard then no action is required on your part. Tix123 will be processing refunds over the next two weeks automatically.
- Paid by Paypal – If you purchased your digital ticket through Tix123 and paid with Paypal, then no action is required on your part. Ai-Kon will be processing Paypal refunds over the next two weeks automatically.
Note : For digital tickets purchased online, there is no option to carry over your purchase to 2021. The only option available will be to have your ticket refunded.
Physical tickets purchased in person
If you have purchased a physical ticket while at Winterfest or another of our promotional events, and would like to request a refund, please contact email@example.com. Please understand that the refund process may require some time.
Note : Attendees who have purchased a physical ticket have the option to carry over the registration purchase and we will honour it for our next summer event.
Tickets won through contests or promotional giveaways
Ai-Kon will honour all tickets won through contests and promotional giveaways at our next summer event. (eg: Ai-Kon raffle, social media giveaway, puzzle hunt winners, etc)
We have also been in contact with our partner Delta Winnipeg hotel and made them aware of our decision. They have informed us they are offering free rebooking or cancellation services to attendees of hotel rooms up until July 15th 2020. If you have booked through a third party website please contact the site directly. You may use this service to reschedule your hotel rooms for Ai-Kon 2021.
Thank you, we treasure your constant incredible support over these last two decades. This has been an unprecedented event in all of our lives, and appreciate the understanding of our community. This action will ensure the continuation of Ai-kon events for our phenomenal attendees in future years.
We will return in the 2021 year and we look forward to seeing all of you there to celebrate together our love of Japanese culture!
